Why am I evil? Well, I'm not, but that's the perception of all of us in HR. Need to fire someone? Come to HR. Need to explain to someone why, even after working their rear end off all year, that their annual increase is 2.7%? Come to HR. Need to come up with new mountains of paperwork? Come to HR. So, come join me on the Evil Side. Oh, and send me your HR questions.

Interesting question and a good answer, but not one that affects me. I live in New Zealand, and discriminating against people based on their employment status is illegal, just like discrimination based on gender, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, political affiliation (and five other factors I can't remember right now). That's not to say HR doesn't discriminate in hiring - they just tend to do it on those factors which affect whether or not someone can actually do the job.
Any job posting which stated that the "unemployed need not apply" I would be sure to send in a bogus resume to "wow" them just to waste their time!
There is no single thing on which we can make the final decision, in regards of discrimination is concern, i believe that even the HRM is in power in an organization discrimination takes place.
On the multiple basis, i have gone through this experience.
Anon,
That is very bad of you to even think such thoughts. Being evil I, of course, love it.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone thinks about job postings before they are made public.
Sure enough, if human resources has the reputation of being the lowest of the trades on Earth, the reputation has been properly earned by many people who perform it.
vile... disgusting... abhorrent... evil... human resources managers
